Rick Williams

Rick Williams, presenting with Andrea Brenneke, is a seventh generation Nitinaht master carver from Vancouver Island, as was his brother, John T. Williams who was killed in a shooting by a Seattle police officer in August 2010.

Rick Williams called for justice and a peaceful response that would honor his brother and his First Nation Heritage. Williams, and other family, friends, community and tribal leaders created a 35 foot John T. Williams Honor Totem Pole that was carved in Waterfront Park, carried by hand procession to Seattle Center and raised there in February 2012.

What is TEDxSeattle?

Seattle, and all the upper left-hand corner, are known for trailblazing ideas put into action. We welcome and champion those who want to challenge the status quo and drive change. TEDxSeattle is a platform that amplifies the ideas of those change makers; a forum to foster new perspectives, and a community committed to challenging its members to be better.
