The Federal Writer’s Project of the 1930s—another decade that found our country on the brink—matched a corps of writers with the funds to travel the nation documenting its people and cultures.
AI5 updates that concept by funding an army of online storytellers to crisscross the nation. Their mandate: produce a living online document that chronicles one crucial year in a complex country. Stories will be intimate, media-rich portraits of the people, places and themes that define America. The only constraint: stories must be consumable online in 5 minutes or less.
AI5 pushes the boundaries of online storytelling, exploring what Americans are thinking, feeling and fearing. It will create an interactive first draft of history for today and generations to come.
